Pengkalan Hulu and Hotel Hill Towne
Hotel Hill Towne is a nice hotel situated at the town centre of Pengkalan Hulu that seats on a hill plateau just 30 minutes from Betong, border town on the other side of Thailand. Betong is landlocked on the same plateau surrounded by the border with Malaysia. It is reasonably safer than Yala or Narathiwat with the huge presence of police and army in Betong. But here in Pengkalan Hulu, the former curfew due to the communist insurgency period before 1987, has kept this place relatively slow paced in development but it is catching with the new housing developments and rise in property prices. Now the town has two optical shops. A 7-11 store, a new grand mosque and a few hotels now in operation. Hotel Hill Towne is one of the higher star rated hotel here.
Pengkalan Hulu was formerly known as Kroh. The english translation means 'murky' as in murky waters. Hence the historical marble stone depicts the story of how this place got it's name.
Pengkalan Hulu when translated to English means Interior Post, something like that haha.
See the numbers of Thai vehicles that loves to buy Malaysian petrol and diesel in Pengkalan Hulu whether there is a government directive or not, is not a matter of concern for this people in Pengkalan Hulu as long as they get the business done.
Do come to Pengkalan Hulu during the durian season and be mesmerised with the fabulous grades and best durian you will ever taste in Malaysia at a very low price unobtainable else where. Forget Penang expensive named durians. You can get the same type of famous durians here at a fraction of the price sold in Penang.
Forget about the names but just enjoy and savour the king of the fruits like a real king here.
The first Rahman Hydraulic Park is situated in Klian Intan. Located near to the first and still operational open cast tin mine in Malaysia, it is located about 10km from Pengkalan Hulu. It is operated by Rahman Hydraulic Tin Sdn Bhd. This place has a lot of history and artefacts still hidden in many of the old shophouses that still stands in this tin mining town of Klian Intan.
Adios and we shall return again.
